So what does one do when an event that was supposed to assemble 100 personal care Christmas gifts gets cancelled because of 6-plus feet of snow?
Have Christmas Care Night of course!
That’s just what we did back on December 19 when we were hosted by St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lancaster. Over 40 youth and adults came to this event borne out of necessity. We accomplished the assembly of the personal care Christmas gifts, which each contained a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo & conditioner, and lotion. And we did it in what seemed record time! We also created any Christmas cards with a message of hope that needed to be done after the 1st-5th Grade Christmas Party got a great start on them the week before. Each gift got a card. The gifts were then delivered to Harvest House and their thrift shop to brighten the spirits of their clients…just in time for Christmas!
We didn’t stop there! We had a ton of fun with some Christmas-themed “Minute to Win It” games. We played some of our popular games – only “Christmas-fied” to fit with the season. We wrapped up with small group devotions and faith conversations that centered on the theme of being the light in the darkness, and participants went home with a LED candle to remind themselves of the light that is within them.
Oh…and we raised $500 for Harvest House through their baby bottle campaign, which the Erie County chapter of Thrivent Financial then matched 200 PERCENT! We sent them $1,500 to support their ministry to those in need!
Check out the pictures from a great night:
