Organic Youth has certainly been busy with great activities lately!
On the heels of the November Lake Effect event which gave us feet upon feet of snow, and postponed our Organic Youth at Harvest House event to April, we geared up for three programs, each centered around building community, building faith, and building up those in need.
Check out each program in more detail to see what we’ve been up to…
This afternoon of elementary fun took place at St. John, Williamsville back on December 13. A dozen kids and our senior high leadership team spent the afternoon with “Christmas-fy-ed” games, snacks, making cards for personal care Christmas gifts, and devotions centering around letting our light shine to help others.
This was a new event borne more out of necessity than anything. With Organic Youth at Harvest House postponed, we were left wondering how to best assemble 100 personal care Christmas gifts for Harvest House to distribute in time for Christmas. Enter Christmas Care Night: an evening where over 40 youth and adults came, assembled the gifts in record time, created a Christmas hope card for each gift, and then had fun with Christmas games, and shared their faith with Christmas devotions.
What an intense, eye-opening and humbling experience for the 8 senior high youth and 6 adult leaders the weekend of January 16-18! We spent the weekend in the city of Buffalo being the hands and feet of Jesus, experiencing what it is like to be among the urban poor. We worked a food pantry, took public transportation, immersed ourselves in prayer and faith conversation, and walked the streets feeding the homeless. What we learned was that ultimately we were the ones being served!
